Comments about Melissa & Doug Scoop & Serve Ice Cream Counter:

My active, soon to be three years old, grandson loves his ice cream counter. He scoops up our ice cream orders efficiently but has difficulty with using the tongs. He loves to pretend and uses a falsetto voice when play acting. He surprised me the first day when he handed me my ice cream cone order, "Have a nice day!" The counter stays here at Grammy's house. I'm not above bribery for getting time with him.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Scoop & Serve Ice Cream Counter:

My 10 year old son bought this with his birthday money. I was hesitant because I thought it seemed young but he loves setting up the counter and serving ice cream to the family. His 2 year old sister loves to play with him. He and his 7 year old brother will play together and work out how much they can buy with the play money they have. It is not compatible with the small ice cream set we already have since that is magnetic, but it comes with enough pieces to be on its own. Toppings stay on well.

I bought this for 2 little girls I babysit and they absolutely loved it! It has a menu and money so it teaches them about monetary transactions. They have many other M&D toys but this is their new favorite!

Best sustainable interest

Comments about Melissa & Doug Scoop & Serve Ice Cream Counter:

I saw this new item in an independent toy store just a few days before Christmas. I bought it and returned the other toy I had already purchased for my three year-old granddaughter. This toy has been a hit with not only the three-year-old, but also her older five-year-old sister and eight year-old brother. This was the favored toy Christmas Day and the days after. They have played with this toy for hours over the days after Christmas. They eventually expanded the Ice Cream Counter with other play food items they had and "opened" a shop serving "customers" with a variety of offerings. This toy has not only been hours of creative fun but can also develop a spirit of cooperation when children play with it together. The toy is well made and offers a lot of options for creativity.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Scoop & Serve Ice Cream Counter:

This was a Christmas gift for my three year old great nephew and what a hit it was! He took ice cream "orders" from his Mom & Dad and had so much fun making and delivering their orders. The grownups had fun too! He received a lot of toys for Christmas and my niece said that this is absolutely his favorite to play with.

My kids love this (a 20 month old and 4 year old). I love it too! It's a great pretend-play toy. My kids play with it multiple times a day. It's definitely one of their favorite Christmas presents!

Discover Countless Ways To Play
  • SORT & STACK Have kids sort the ice cream scoops according to details you give, such as those with chips and without, vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream, and "other," or flavors they like and those they don't. Have kids count the number of scoops in each group as they stack them on top of each other. Which group has the most scoops and which has the least?

  • COLD CASH There are six dollar bills included with the play set. Place an order ("A two-scoop cone with sprinkles, please!") and have kids count out the number of bills needed to buy it. As counting and math skills develop, ask kids to figure out if they have enough money to pay for different orders. For instance, can they get a single scoop cone, a double-scoop cup, and a triple-scoop cone? What about two scoops with a topping and three scoops with a topping?

  • NAME THAT CONE Have kids create delicious combinations and then come up with creative names for the creamy concoctions -- Chip Chip Hooray, Choco-licious-ness, Sweet Sarah's Delight. After kids make and name their creations, have them draw pictures of them with the names and a price underneath so they can run them as "specials" in their ice cream shop!

  • DON'T LET IT MELT It's a hot summer day and the ice cream is starting to melt! Luckily, folks are starting to line up at the ice cream counter. Set a timer for 60 seconds and start calling out orders. Have young ice cream servers use and reuse cones and cups to fill as many orders as they can before the timer goes off!

  • ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, STACK! Place four ice cream scoops in a line on the floor, and the other four in a line about 10 feet away. Have kids (one or two) choose a cone. When you say, "On your mark, get set, stack!" have kids choose a scoop and yell out the flavor as they stack it on their cone. Then, they have to race to the other line, choose a scoop, and yell out the flavor as they stack it on top of the first scoop. Repeat until all the scoops are on top of a cone! If a scoop falls off while running, the kids have to pick it up, run to the farthest line, and replace the scoop before continuing the race. With one player, use a timer to make the "race" more challenging; with two players, have them start on the same line and race each other.
