Comments about Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board:

My baby got this as a gift when he was around 9 or 10 months old. He couldn't quite stack, but he LOVED to unstack. He also pretty much always had one of the blocks in his hand. He loves to clap the blocks together and knock them on other objects. So, before he could even do the sorting and stacking, this toy gave lots of entertainment. Now he knows how to stack and spin the blocks around the pegs. He learned "on" and "off" and is beginning to understand the colors. I'm looking forward to all the other ways he'll play with this toy in the future!

Comments about Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board:

I got this for my son when he was under a year old. He absolutely loved stacking and unstacking them. Shortly after he started counting them and sorting them. Soon after that he was telling me the shapes, colors and how many there were! Even re-stacking them in the right order. He had hours and hours of fun with this toy. If it weren't so easy to loose the pieces it would be even better! lol

This toy is deceptively simple however it teaches so much-colors, shapes, counting, sorting. Both my 4 and 2 year old love playing with it. It gives tactical and visual experiences with a variety of concepts and is a must-have for any playroom or toybox!

Comments about Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board:

We love this toy because of its durability. My daughter can turn it over, toss the pieces around, and then put them all back together again. We've played with it over and over and it still looks brand new. I love watching her abilities develop from barely being able to put the rings on the pegs to now sorting them by color and shape. Soon we'll be counting them, too.

                • Ask the child how many different colored blocks there are.

                • Ask the child what shape each color block is.

                • Make a simple pattern by placing a purple, a yellow, and a red block in a row. Ask the child to replicate the pattern.

                • Ask the child how tall he/she can stack a block tower before it topples. Count each block out loud as it is added to the tower.

                • Place a specific number of blocks in front of the child and ask him/her to count them.

                • Place four to six blocks in front of the child. Ask the child to study the blocks. Take one block away while the child closes his/her eyes. Ask the child to open his/her eyes and tell you which block is missing. Add to the challenge by starting with a greater number of blocks or by taking away more than one.
