Discover Countless Ways To Play
  • Turn the boards upside-down for a new set of sequence challenges.

  • Ask the child to sort the pieces into groups by color or shape. Count each group and discuss which has the most pieces and which has the fewest pieces.

  • Create a color sequence on one of the dowels and ask the child to repeat the colors on the next dowel, using any of the shapes.

  • Create a shape sequence on one of the dowels and ask the child to repeat the shapes on the next dowel, using any of the colors.

  • Begin a simple pattern (such as red, blue, red, blue) with beads on a dowel. Ask the child to continue the pattern to fill the dowel.

  • Fill one of the dowels with a rainbow sequence: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Ask the child to replicate the color sequence on the other dowels to create entire rows of rainbow colors.

  • Create a number line: Place one bead on the first dowel, two beads on the second dowel, and so on. Then count along the number line.

  • Use the dowels and beads to express mathematical ideas. For instance: "This dowel has 3 beads. I'm holding 2 beads. When I add my beads, 3 put together with 2 makes 5 beads in all!"

  • Describe beads aloud and ask the child to follow your spoken instructions to fill a dowel. Extra challenge: Ask the child to remember and carry out a few instructions at a time.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Bead Sequencing Set Classic Toy:

This is an amazing product and it far exceeded what I was expecting. It comes in a wonderful wooden case, with a slide on clear lid to keep it all inside. I bought this for my mom, in hopes that it will help her with her cognition, reasoning, decision making, dexterity and hand and eye coordination, that are all suffering due to dementia. She loves working with them so far, and the sense of accomplishment when she finishes it, is also great for her. Our doctor even commended me for thinking this much about how to keep my mom present, longer in her every day life.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Bead Sequencing Set Classic Toy:

Thought this was a little cashy and wondered if it was worth the money, but purchased it anyway. It was worth EVERY penny. My toddler/2yr olds love to stack the beads & then dump them, and luckily the set is large enough that more than one child can play with it at a time. I also have a 4yr old with autism and this is one of the few toys I have ever seen him play with. They don't use the cards that came with the set yet, but I suspect they eventually will. Am going to order a second set for my daycare and a third set as a gift.

I have this in my preschool classroom. The children love this as a math station to visit. They use it to copy patterns, create thier own and also counting. I had to order another set for home for my own child. It is a great value and everything fits back into the storage conatainer.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Bead Sequencing Set Classic Toy:

My nine year old son is autistic and he has this at school and church. It is the first thing he takes out and will occupy him for hours. Second only to his dinosaurs, there is something about the order of this toy that calms him and his helpful with his fine motor skills. I would recommend this to any parent of young children, but if you have an autistic child of any age it is a great toy to have around.
