Thanks to our guest blogger Julie Kieras at Happy Strong Home for helping kids hop into Spring with this simple craft for Frog Month!
April is Frog Month! And rightly so, as I’ve already been hearing those little peepers at night. The boys can’t wait until they catch one hopping through our garden!
It was amazing to see how quickly our two year old caught on (literally!) to the sticky catch game! He’s got a great throwing arm! Sticky catch is a great starter game for younger kids because almost everyone can snag one of those self-stick fabric balls at some point!
We also did a little frog craft: creating Hop-to-it magnets to hold the boys’ chore charts. I’m always telling them to “Hop to it!” when I ask them to dust or pick up toys, so a frog holder seemed so appropriate!
The boys loved picking out their favorite frog color from the bag of frogs. And since green is my oldest’s favorite color, Frog Month is a huge hit!
Creating a magnetic Frog Clothespin Clip is a very easy craft and most kids 3 and up can join in. Here’s what you need:
- Giant Clothespins (craft store)
- Green paint
- Large paintbrushes
- Bag of Sunny Patch Froggy Friends
- Liquid glue (for a very strong bond)
- Magnets (we used 2 per clothespin for extra holding power)
Painting the clothespin green was the longest part of the project. We disassembled the clothespins so we didn’t get paint on the spring. Then painted each side of each piece green. Two coats were perfect for us.
I didn’t bring extra paint with us, but it would’ve been neat to add some speckled colors to our frog craft!
Once the paint was dry and I’d reassembled the clothespins, the boys grabbed their favorite frog, and I helped them glue them onto the clothespin. A few dots of glue on each frog leg worked great – I had to help them position the frog as they are just a little bigger than the clothespin so you have to be sure some part of each leg sticks to the wood. The kids wanted the frogs facing down, so it looked like it was “eating” their charts!
Glue magnets very securely to the back of the clothespin and allow everything to dry.
Our Hop-To-It Clothespin clips worked perfectly for hanging up the chore charts! It’s also great as an artwork display!
Hop to it before Frog Month is over and make one of these easy frog crafts with your kids!
