Look at the pictures of the puzzles on the outside of the box. Ask the child to identify each character (princess, fairy, mermaid, ballerina).
Gather the pieces from one puzzle and ask the child to count each piece out loud. Then add more pieces from the other puzzles to count to higher numbers.
Select three or four pieces from one puzzle, and ask the child to identify the character they belong to.
Turn all the puzzle pieces face-down and mix them together. Ask the child to sort the pieces into four piles by looking at the shapes printed on the backs of the pieces.
Ask the child to tell you a story based on one or more of the characters. Help provide story ideas with leading questions, such as, "What do you think she ate for breakfast?"
