The seasons are always changing, so any time of year can be the right time to celebrate the four seasons!
It can be fun to learn about seasons in general ways. Ask children to write down (or draw) what they love most about each one, using the following fun facts to help guide your discussion.

The four seasons (winter, spring, summer, and fall) affect our lives in numerous ways. Winter
  • In the United States, winter days are shorter than at any other time of year.
  • During this season we celebrate special holidays with their own unique traditions, music, and food.
  • After these holidays, our current year ends and a new one begins. We celebrate this change on New Years Day.
  • Budding trees, baby animals, chirping birds, and warmer days mark the start of this season.
  • Springtime weather can be warm, cold, rainy, snowy, or windy.
  • Spring is a wonderful time to start gardening and enjoying all the pretty new flowers that bloom.
  • Summer brings school vacations, picnics, camping, swimming pools, and sunburns! We protect our bodies from the sun by wearing hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Many fruits and vegetables are at their peak in summer. Could you image summer without ripe watermelon, peaches, pineapple, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes?
  • Fall is harvest time. And as the weather cools, leaves turn lovely shades of red, orange, and yellow before falling to the ground.
  • Halloween, on October 31, is a time for young and old to dress in costume and “trick or treat.”
  • We give thanks for the year’s good fortune during Thanksgiving, which takes place during this season.
What’s your favorite season? * * *
