14Our Blog Ambassador Tiffany, of Peanut Blossom, shares some family traditions that kick start summer vacation with a first day of summer celebration!
The last day of school, the first day of summer. Whatever you name that day, it is a major highlight on the calendar for kids everywhere.
Want to really connect with your kids? Show them you realize how much this moment means to them with the easiest celebration ideas ever!
Our family has a few festive traditions for the evening after they step off the bus for the last time of the year. You can read about them over on Peanut Blossom here.
But if morning is more your golden zone, check out my favorite first day of summer celebration!
Once the kids are in bed, I decorate our Melissa & Doug chalkboard with a “Welcome to Summer” message. I try to greet them with a special breakfast like my Peaches and Cream Scones served up picnic style on the living room floor.
For the rest of the season, this easel board will announce the fun adventures we’re having and the daily to-do list. My kids love knowing what’s on deck before I’m even out of bed.
They wake up to messages like:
- Library day
- Pool day
- Farmer’s Market + Ice Cream
- House Chores day with pool trip reward
- Rainy day reading picnic
Honestly, it doesn’t matter how mundane the activity, just finding it scrawled out with colorful chalk messages and coordinating doodles makes my kids day!
