What special family traditions do you have for celebrating the Back to School season? Is a Family Feast on the calendar? Today I’m sharing some quick and easy (and adorable!) ideas for setting a festive table over on Peanut Blossom but I wanted to share this super easy trick for painting little red apple placemats with you here!

In order to surprise my kids, I did these myself but they’d be even more fun done as a family project the day before.

Materials needed:

The Melissa & Doug finger paint pad is the perfect size for using as a placemat. I love that we can decorate these for each season. Simply mold the toilet paper tube to form a divet towards the top of the “apple”, dip in paint, and press onto the paper.

I hand painted the little green stems myself with the small paintbrush:
