Kid Made Heart Pendants

We are in love with all of our bead sets from Melissa & Doug. My kids (ages 7 and 9) especially love making necklaces and key chains for the people they love. During our last session of jewelry making, the kids thought of a way to make their very own heart pendants, inspired by the hearts in the Sweethearts Bead Set.

Instructions for Kid-Made Heart Pendants

Step One | Mixing Colored Clay

Using the moldable clay, choose two colors that you think will make a beautiful mixture. We love mixing the primary colors to make purples, oranges and greens. Have your child pinch the colors together between their fingers until the colors begin to swirl. You can continue mixing until you have a new color or leave it as raw as you want.

Step Two | Making Hearts

Using the rolling pin from the sculpt and mold set, roll out your dough. We like to roll ours to about 1/4 of an inch, but you can do any thickness you want. Once you have the perfect thickness, use a cookie cutter to form the perfect heart shape!

Step Three| Stringing Your Heart Pendants

Now you are ready to string your hearts. Our favorite strings are the ones from the Sweethearts Bead Set! They have super long ends that are easy for even the youngest child to string. Entering from the front of the heart, push both string ends in and pull them until a small loop hangs out. Once you have the loop hanging out, thread the ends of the string back through.
