Learn how to encourage Moments of Wonder while traveling with your children. Our Blog Ambassador Zina Harrington talks about how she’s helping her kids to #TakeBackChildhood over on Let’s Lasso the Moon this week!
. . .
Moments of awe and wonder are a powerful part of childhood. Here on the blog, Melissa (YES–THE Melissa of Melissa & Doug. She is a real person!) has strongly advocated the importance of Moments of Wonder and encourages parents…
She explains, “Once we open our eyes and see the marvels right in front of us, we can develop a tremendous appreciation and find immense pleasure in life’s simplest gifts.”
Here’s the catch, Moments of Wonder often happen when kids are given the unstructured time and space to explore the outer reaches of their imaginations.
Those precious moments, when kids have the freedom to follow their curiosity, are disappearing from their everyday lives. Free time is in short supply in today’s world. To help turn the tide, Melissa & Doug has come together with parents in a movement to fight for free time.

Join The Take Back Childhood Movement
Let’s work together to let kids be kids. Here are some ideas to get started:
- Plan for Play. Put free time on your calendar just like you’d pencil in soccer practice.
- Let Kids Lead. Your role is to guide and facilitate, not direct or dictate.
- Keep It Free. The best play, discovery, and creation truly begins with nothing but imagination.
Be sure to share snapshots of your kiddos as they #TakeBackChildhood with the movement’s hashtag #CountlessWaysToPlay on Instagram for a chance to be featured on the Melissa & Doug website and Facebook page!
