These sibling water play activities are brought to us by our guest blogger Kim of The Educators’ Spin On It.
There is one thing that draws children together regardless of their ages… it’s water! Think of how much fun you had as a kid around water. Water play can be a fun way for siblings to connect. Here’s one way to enjoy this experience.
Water play can provide a child hours of fun. What if we added two special toys to the fun?
A doll and a bathtub
That’s just what we did with my two siblings and created an afternoon of play. Finding activities that work for multiple ages for siblings is important. It helps form sibling bonding as well as build vocabulary for the younger sibling as they listen to their sibling express what’s happening as they play.
Bath time Water Fun with Baby Doll
To prep for the activity be sure to find a location that is able to get a few splashes. We took our adventure outdoors but a bath towel on the kitchen floor would work too. Adding a few additional props adds to the fun.
- Container to pour
- Rubber duck
- Clothing for baby
You could even Create a Sibling Book for how to give a baby a bath for your emerging readers too! This would be an ideal story line for learning about sequencing of events. Take photos to sequence the event if your young illustrator isn’t ready to draw those images yet.
Now it’s time for PLAY! This activity is perfect for when you are preparing for a sibling to arrive at your house. Role modeling with your child how to care and provide for a baby will help them understand what’s really happening when the time arrives. As they get older, playing make believe with these also helps them to prepare for their future, too… far off in the distance.

Bath time water play with a baby doll seems like such a simple thing but yet the values it teaches our children are priceless. If you have a toddler who is potty training this can be a helpful doll for role play with that as well! Plus if you’re welcoming a new sibling it’s a great way to start those conversations and role modeling of caring for a new baby in your home with Mommy and Daddy.
