Details Countless Ways To Play

The Scoop

The 15 wooden pieces in this novel shape sorter offer a variety of colors, shapes, and opportunities for learning. Stack them on the pegged stand in order, mix up the shapes and colors, or create your own games with these engaging first manipulatives! A printed key on the wooden base offers guidance when it's wanted, but the possibilities for play are endless. Use the colorful blocks to encourage sorting, matching, counting, stacking, dexterity, fine motor skills, color recognition, and more!

Discover Countless Ways To Play
  • Ask the child to hand you a specific colored block.

  • Ask the child how many different colored blocks there are.

  • Ask the child what shape each color block is.

  • Make a simple pattern by placing a purple, a yellow, and a red block in a row. Ask the child to replicate the pattern.

  • Ask the child how tall he/she can stack a block tower before it topples. Count each block out loud as it is added to the tower.

  • Place a specific number of blocks in front of the child and ask him/her to count them.

  • Place four to six blocks in front of the child. Ask the child to study the blocks. Take one block away while the child closes his/her eyes. Ask the child to open his/her eyes and tell you which block is missing. Add to the challenge by starting with a greater number of blocks or by taking away more than one.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board:

This is a beautifully designed learning toy! It provides experiences with many skills, including matching by color and by shape, counting and matching number to set, building eye- hand coordination, problem-solving, language development, turn-taking, and FUN! This is a toy that a child can enjoy over time, as she is learning new concepts. Fantastic - a great investment!

Just what I wanted! My 18 month old grandson loves the bright colors. I feel he is learning to count, differentiate shapes and colors, and improving his fine motor skills, all in one! Was delivered quickly, and packaged well.

Comments about Melissa & Doug Stack & Sort Board:

My baby got this as a gift when he was around 9 or 10 months old. He couldn't quite stack, but he LOVED to unstack. He also pretty much always had one of the blocks in his hand. He loves to clap the blocks together and knock them on other objects. So, before he could even do the sorting and stacking, this toy gave lots of entertainment. Now he knows how to stack and spin the blocks around the pegs. He learned "on" and "off" and is beginning to understand the colors. I'm looking forward to all the other ways he'll play with this toy in the future!
